  • Donald Trump said the crisis wouldn't have happened if he were still president.

  • Trump froze $400 million in military aid to Ukraine.

  • He praised Putin for his actions and said that the peninsula is part of Russia.

The current crisis in the country would never have happened if Donald Trump were still in office, he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine early Thursday, sending troops from its northern, eastern, and southern borders. 137 Ukrainians have died and over 300 have been wounded as a result of the invasion, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The deadly Ukraine situation would never have happened if Trump were in office, he said in a statement.

The statement came after Trump praised Putin for his justification for invading Ukraine.

I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said that it was genius. When asked about the news, Trump said that he would be a peacekeeper.

His comments stood in contrast to those of US officials, who warned that Putin was trying to create a false pretext to invade the country.

Trump was impeached for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The articles of impeachment were related to Trump's attempts to strongarm the Ukrainian President into launching politically motivated investigations against the Bidens, as well as withholding vital military aid while doing so.

The hold on the security assistance was lifted after House Democrats launched an investigation into the matter.

Trump shocked American allies by telling G7 leaders that the territory of Crimea is part of Russia. The leaders of other member states were surprised by his comments given that Russia&s decision to annex the peninsula led to its expulsion from the G8.

Trump told reporters before the G7 summit that he believed Russia should be admitted back into the alliance, and he wondered aloud at the summit why world leaders sided with Ukraine over Russia.

Trump blamed the crisis in Ukraine on the 2020 election.

What went wrong was a rigged election, and what went wrong was a man that had no idea what he was doing, Trump said. This would not have happened.
