According to Mike Johnson and Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com, Cesaro was unable to agree to a new contract with the company.

The 41-year-old is now a free agent. His contract is about to expire, so he won't be subject to a non-compete clause.

Cesaro was defeated by Happy Corbin on February 11th in a match on SmackDown.

Assuming he wants to remain an active wrestler, he should be able to land on his feet with another promotion or booking a series of independent shows.

Cesaro held the United States Championship on one occasion and had multiple tag title runs, but many fans felt he was unable to hit his true ceiling in WWE.

When he won the first Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, it looked like he was going to have a big singles run.

He became a "Paul Heyman Guy" one night, which seemed to further cement his ascendance. Cesaro was left toiling in the mid-card as the storyline went nowhere.

The puzzling aspect of the Swiss Superman's tenure is that he seemingly checked the necessary boxes to at least become a world champion. He has the body of a top star, he is a great in-ring performer and what he lacks in promo ability he makes up for with a natural charisma that attracts fans.

Vince McMahon did not share the same view as Cesaro.

Cesaro has the chance to reignite his career somewhere else.
