As Ben Simmons begins a new chapter in his career with the Brooklyn Nets, questions about the divorce he experienced with the Philadelphia 76ers linger.
One of the players who has experienced both parts of the journey with the 25-year-old All-Star guard insists that Simmons does not.
Simmons will be fine in a new setting in Brooklyn, according to the man who was acquired by the Nets along with Simmons, and two future first-round picks.
Curry said that business is business and that people were asking if he felt like apologizing if Ben came back. He doesn't need to apologize to anyone. I know he will do his job when he is on the court. I know the business. He was doing what he thought was best for himself.
I understand that the team is going to do the same thing as far as making trades, so I don't take anything personally. We are teammates when we are on the court. Everything is fine. We need each other to do good things. There has been nothing negative he has done to me.
Curry's comments come in the wake of Danny Green saying on his "Inside the Green Room" show that the relationship between Curry and Simmons wasn'tcordial at the end of the 76ers. Curry said there was no ill will between the three players.
Curry said the relationship was fine. I don't know what that means, but the relationship was fine. We didn't talk a lot because he wasn't around. He is on my team. I went to battle with him last year and we did a lot of good stuff, so I am looking forward to going to war with who I think is on my team.
Curry is confident that Simmons will return to his All-Star form as he gets adjusted to his new surroundings in Brooklyn. Simmons has started working out with his new teammates and is getting some work in with a former NBA player, Kyle Korver.
Simmons got what he wanted when he left Philadelphia, Curry said. He is a talented player and he does great things. We play good basketball when he is on the court, even though he was rocky with Philly last year. Even though they had a rocky relationship, they played good basketball together. He is going to play hard no matter what. He is a smart player, a talented player, and I am looking forward to getting back out there with him.
Simmons seems to be in good spirits around his new team, something that becomes even more critical given that he pushed for a trade over the summer because he didn't feel his mental health was in a good place with the 76ers.
Curry said that Simmons looks good. He looks all right after working back physically. He looks positive around his teammates. It looks like he is in a better place mentally than he was earlier in the year. I am looking forward to getting him back on the court and doing what we have to do.
Veteran guard Patty Mills said that he believes that Simmons' best days are ahead of him. As the Nets prepare for the final two months of the regular season, Mills is steadfast in his belief that the team can reach a higher point. The Nets play the Boston Celtics on Thursday in their last regular-season game.
Mills said that he felt the energy from other players when the Nets came together. I think the best thing for us was for us to take a break and regroup, because a lot has happened. Enjoy time with your family, go get some sun, and when we come back, this is what we are here for. No excuses now. We are going to stay like this until the end. Everyone got it. Everyone was locked in.
We are getting in the trenches and we are not coming out. That is where the strength and belief comes from. We all came here because of that. I am one of the people who came here to win a championship this year. I think a reminder for everyone else that is still here is a good thing. When you get everyone together, you get everyone moving in the same direction.
