The New York City Marathon will return to full capacity with 50,000 runners this year after being limited due to the coronaviruses in 2020.

New York Road Runners made the announcement on Thursday.

The 2020 NYC Marathon was called off in June of 2020 as the city dealt with a public health crisis created by COVID-19.

The marathon returned for its 50th running in November with a shrunken field of 25,010 runners, all of whom were required to show either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of the race. Spectators were encouraged to keep their distance, and some entertainment elements were scaled back.

The event will be brought back to its former standard with the restoration of on-course entertainment, according to organizers. Runners will need to show proof of full vaccinations to enter.

Runners from all over the world come to New York City because of the New York City Marathon.

Runners will be able to enter a drawing in March. You can enroll via charities and raise money for the marathon. Runners who were slated to participate in the canceled 2020 race were given the option to return in the following years.
