Eric Bieniemy is expected to return as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coach.

After interviewing for several head-coaching vacancies, the Chiefs are expecting Bieniemy to return, according to Matt Verderame of Fansided.

Bieniemy has worked for Andy Reid in Kansas City for 10 years. He began as a running backs coach and was promoted to offensive coordinator in the year that Patrick Mahomes ascended.

Kansas City has hosted a record four straight AFC Championship Games, with the Chiefs offense ranking as the most explosive in football for most of that time period.

Bieniemy seemed like a lock to become the latest Reid protege to lead a team of his own. Doug Pederson and Matt Nagy are two of the previous Chiefs offensive coordinators who went on to be NFL head coaches. It is not clear why Bieniemy is not a head-coaching position given that he has more success as a coordinators than either Pederson or Nagy.

Bieniemy is included in a lawsuit filed against the NFL by a former Miami Dolphins head coach. Bieniemy's continued failure to land a top job as an example of the racial bias that exists within the NFL is cited in the suit.
