The Find X5 Pro is a premium phone that will be offered by OPPO at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. We have just over 48 hours to get to grips with the device and its new camera tricks, but not much time for a full review.
The new Find X3 Pro is a modest upgrade from the Find X3 Pro in places, but the most interesting features are the MariSilicon X chip and SuperVOOC 80W charging.

The Find X3 Pro is the same as the OPPO Find X5 Pro. OPPO is sticking with its trademark curved back panel in its latest device, with an oblong-shaped camera bump as part of the ceramic mold. The raised area around the lens is not a separate piece. The back panel has a curved glass edge that catches the light in a unique way.
The design is slippery and prone to sliding off softer fabric surfaces than other phones, but it is one of the most striking looks for a phone. The phone is available inceramic white orglaze black, though don't be confused by the names, both versions of the phone use a ceramic back panel.
The Find X5 Pro is almost identical to last year&s model, with a curved 6.7-inch display boasting Quad HD sharpness and 120Hz smoothness. The peak brightness of 1,300 nits makes it easy to use in direct sunlight.
There is a generous helping of RAM and internal storage, as well as conveniences like water resistance and in-screen fingerprints, in the OPPO flagship.

The Find X5 Pro has a new version of the ColorOS software, with new features including wallpaper-based theming and a new RAM boost option. This feature allows you to add 3, 5, or 7GB of virtual memory to the real memory for better multitasking performance.

The quick access bar, the flexible windowed mode for apps, and the quick launch carousel are just a few of the little conveniences sprinkled throughout ColorOS.

The camera hardware of the Find X5 Pro isn't all that interesting. The Find X3 Pro telescope camera has been retired for what it is worth. The main and ultrawide cameras use the same Sony IMX766 sensor as last year's phone, though the main camera now boasts new 5-axis optical image stabilization. It is still a mere 13-megapixel 2X offering, and disappointingly, the telephoto hardware hasn't been upgraded either.
The camera system's processing is the secret sauce. The Find X5 has a partnership with Swedish camera veteran Hasselblad, as well as a new MariSilicon X neural processing unit from OPPO. The new phone has a dedicated Silicon that allows it to capture better photos in challenging lighting conditions and very low light.
When the artificial intelligence scene enhancer is enabled, the photos from OPPO retain the same saturated look we saw from the Find X3 last year. Even in challenging backlit conditions, the Find X5 Pro still does a fantastic job with dynamic range, pulling out great-looking portrait shots.

Thanks to the photo-crunching power of the MariSilicon X chip, this camera has low-light capabilities. The new processor allows the camera to pull legible color and fine detail out of extreme low-light scenes, situations where the naked eye would have trouble making out any specific colors. In night mode, the capture times were usually less than a second.
OPPO uses MariSilicon to resolve more detail in its high-res mode. The phone will tell you that this is best used in static scenes with plenty of light.
The Find X5 Pro has video capabilities and the new chip allows some of those low-light gains to carry over. The low-light footage was better than the previous generation of the phone. When using the ultrawide camera for video, there was less of a drop-off in quality.
The walking footage picked up some light in darker scenes, but the cameras did better in the pan shots.
In our full review, we will have more to say on photo quality. You can see a sample of shots embedded above.

The battery life of the Find X3 Pro was disappointing, but so far the new OPPO phone has a better life than that. Although the camera system is power hungry, the overall battery life has been good enough.
On my first full day with the phone, I was able to stay on the phone for 16 hours and 43 minutes from a full charge, with dead-on five hours of screen-on time remaining just before midnight. This was a heavy day of use, with a lot of still photography, and a lot of back-and-forth between messaging and media apps. This was done without using any of the phone's battery-saving modes.
After an extended period with the phone, we will have more to say on longevity in our full review.
The Find line has not been great for battery life. The series highlighted some of the fastest charging speeds in any generation thanks to the Super VOOC standard. This year, OPPO returns with 50W wireless charging, along with 80W wired charging.
The phone reported 30W speeds from my Warp Charge 30 wireless stand, and 45W from the latest version.
The 80W charging brick in the box can be used to refill a phone in a matter of seconds. After plugging in the Find X5 Pro with 1% charge remaining, I came back 10 minutes later and it was already back to 42%. A refill from almost-dead to full took 40 minutes.

You would expect the charging rate to be around 80%. It takes a short time to take a shower and change your clothes, but it is worth it.
The 50% quote was roughly in line with what I experienced from the phone, and the 100% refill in 40 minutes was quicker than the 47 minutes quoted by OPPO. The phone was already powered on and had 1% left as opposed to charging a completely dead phone.

We are going to spend more time with the OPPO Find X5 Pro before publishing our full review, but based on the limited time we have spent with the phone, there is plenty to like here.
The low-light capabilities of the phone are just as good as those of the other flagships, and it is disappointing that OPPO did not include a periscope camera in its flagship. At first glance, OPPO's battery life is pretty run-of-the-mill, but it more than compensates with ridiculously quick refill times.
The Find X5 Pro is one of the best phones of the year.
