Why patience paid off for the USWNT in win vs. Iceland (1:00)

The USA won the SheBelieves Cup with a win over Iceland. (1:00)

Several players from the United States women's national team wore athletic tape on their wrists with the words "Protect Trans Kids" written on it.

The wristbands were a protest against a letter Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Abbott wrote in the letter that employees and licensed professionals should report gender-confirming care to state authorities.

The USWNT won SheBelieves.

Catarina Macario showed her wrist to the camera after scoring her second goal.

Macario told reporters after the game that they wanted to show why this team is different and why they do things that are bigger than just the game.

It was a way to show awareness because we were playing in Texas.

I wanted to make sure everyone was able to see it, and it wasn't just another thing getting swept under the rug.

Several players posted wristbands on social media with messages of support for trans children, including the USWNT captain.

She wrote that denying gender-affirming resources to trans kids and threatening their parents with claims of child abuse is immoral.

If you want to help, support groups like Quality Texas.

There is a person named Kristie Mewis. Margaret Purce, Andi Sullivan, and Rapinoe were also wearing wristbands.
