The Find X5 Pro is Oppo's flagship phone for 2022. It's a follow-up to last year's Find X3 Pro, but that was a great phone, and after spending more than a week with a not-yet-final version of its successor, I'm expecting it to be better.
The Find X5 Pro's design is similar to the X3 Pro. The ceramic back panel and the abstract shape of the camera bump give the white unit a Star Wars-esque feel. It looks better in person than I anticipated, and it is an eye-catching device.
The Find X3 Pro has more going on. The ring light-equipped microscope camera is no more, and the same 50-megapixel IMX766 sensors are used in the primary and ultrawide cameras. It was disappointing not to see the microscope camera replaced with something more useful, like the periscope camera that Oppo pioneered.
The lens in front of the camera is slightly faster at f/1.7 than the previous one, and Oppo says it now uses more glass than the previous ones. The lens has five-axis stabilization. The partnership between Hasselblad and Oppo is said to deliver big improvements for low-light video recording in particular with a dedicated 4K Ultra Night Video mode. I won't make a decision on the results until I have a release version of the software, since Oppo tells me the next update will address camera performance.
You get the typical flagship specifications this year. There's a 6.7-inch display, a 5000mAh battery, 80W fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and 12 gigabytes of storage. The Find X5 is a non-Pro version that has a smaller 6.5-inchOLED screen, and is powered by the same processor as the Pro version.
Pricing and release dates for the Find X5 Pro will vary by region. Once the software is finalized, we will have more coverage on this device.
