According to sources, the New York Knicks and Kemba Walker have agreed that the four-time All-Star will be out for the rest of the season, allowing him to work out in preparation for the 2022-23 season.

After signing a two-year deal with the Knicks in August, the partnership became fraught with starts and stops that ultimately led to the organization collaborating with his agent, Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports, on a plan for Walker across the Knicks.

The Knicks and Schwartz will have an opportunity to work on trade scenarios in the off-season when Walker's contract is up.

After missing two months following ankle surgery, New York is expected to get guard Derrick Rose back in the lineup soon.

Walker was dropped from the Knicks playing rotation in November after he averaged more than 10 points in the first 18 games of the season. Walker scored 29 points in a loss to the Boston Celtics in December, and 44 points in a loss to the Washington Wizards a few days later.

Walker averaged eight points in 22 minutes in February before the All-Star break, but the Knicks lost seven of eight games.

Walker spent his first eight NBA seasons with the Charlotte Hornets and became an All-Star and franchise cornerstone. Walker spent two seasons with the Celtics before he was traded to Oklahoma City last year.
