The New York Times reported that the two prosecutors who were leading the investigation resigned.

The two prosecutors, Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz, resigned after the new district attorney expressed doubts about moving forward with a case against Donald Trump.

The Trump Organization and Allen Weisselberg were indicted on 15 felony counts. Trump has not been charged with a crime.

Dunne declined to comment on the matter, while Pomerantz confirmed his resignation to The Times. According to the paper, the investigation into Trump has stopped because Bragg is hesitant to bring charges against Trump, and that neither Pomerantz nor Dunne had questioned any witnesses in more than a month.

The first round of charges focused on alleged tax-evasion schemes. The investigation is now focused on whether the Trump Organization inflated or deflated the value of assets for tax purposes.

According to the investigation, Trump may have overstated his financial net worth when applying for loans. His accounting firm, Mazars USA, cut ties with him earlier this month after determining that ten years of his financial statements should no longer be relied on.

The civil probe by Tish James, the state attorney general, is heating up. A Manhattan judge last week ordered Trump and his children to comply with subpoenas.

Lawyers for Trump and Weisselberg asked a judge to dismiss the case against the Trump Organization and its CFO, citing "selective" and " politically motivated" prosecution.

Weisselberg's lawyers said he was in the middle of a yearslong pursuit of Donald J. Trump.
