A spokeswoman for the Manhattan district attorney's office confirmed to CNBC that two of their top prosecutors have resigned.

According to The New York Times, the resignations of Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz came Wednesday, after a monthlong pause in the presentation of evidence to a grand jury.

Danielle Filson, communications director for the district attorney's office, said in a statement to CNBC that they are grateful for their service.

Questions were raised about the state of the probe after the resignations. According to The Times, the new Manhattan district attorney has doubts about continuing to build a case against Trump.

The office of the New York Attorney General is conducting a criminal investigation into the Trump Organization. According to reports, both offices are looking into claims by Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen that the Trump Organization misstated its real estate valuations to get better tax and loan deals.

A person from the attorney general's office told CNBC that there is a robust team in place working on the investigation.

According to The Times, the new Manhattan district attorney has doubts about continuing to build a case against Trump.

CNBC's requests for comment were not immediately responded to by Pomerantz and Dunne.

Dunne appeared in court last year when the Trump Organization and its former CFO, Allen Weisselberg, pleaded not guilty to criminal fraud and tax evasion charges.

Dunne said that there was no clearer example of a company that should be held to criminal account.

Trump has not been accused of anything.
