One of the most popular ways to play digital PC games is on Steam. With a wide variety of titles both old and new to choose from, as well as an active community for pretty much every game available on the platform, Steam is a gamer's best friend.

You can add friends and more with the social component of steam. It isn't a significant part of the app, but it does allow users to play their favorite games with their friends or message other users.

Sometimes you want a little privacy while you enjoy your favorite titles. You can appear offline even when you are not in your account. No one will bother you while you play.

Offline mode is actually a way of disabling your Steam app from the internet. You will still be able to use all the features of Steam even if you appear offline.

Whether you want to play your guilty pleasure title, or just take a break from talking to your friends online, here is how to appear offline on steam.

How to appear offline on Steam

1. If you are on a PC, click on Friends at the top of the window, or in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

2. In the menu, choose invisible. Your Steam friends and strangers should now see your profile offline.

You can appear back online by opening up the Friends menu again and selecting Online. You can sign out of the messenger entirely by selecting Offline in step 2.

You can make these changes in the Friends and chat menu, which is located in the bottom right of the window, regardless of whether you are using a PC or Mac.

Click on your usernames at the top of the popout window and follow step 2.
