After losing a doubles match with his partner, footage shows him whacking the umpire with his racquet four times, causing Germani to flinch.
Zverev yelled "You f*cking destroyed the whole f*cking match!" during the match, and could be heard yelling at Germani.
The Mexican Open withdrew Zverev from his second-round singles match due to his unsportsmanlike conduct.
Zverev apologized, saying his behavior was wrong and unacceptable and that he had apologized to Germani.
Andy Murray, a former Wimbledon champion, called Zverev's actions dangerous and disrespectful.
Zverev could also face a hefty fine, after he spit in the direction of an umpire and called the official a "f*cking fool" during the Cincinnati Masters.
In October, the ATP announced it had opened an investigation into domestic abuse allegations made by Zverev's ex-girlfriend. Sharypova told Racquet magazine in 2020 and Slate in 2021. Murray complained to media outlets multiple times about the lack of a clear domestic abuse policy of the ATP. The domestic abuse investigation has not been announced by the tour. Zverev is innocent of all abuse allegations.
