Bones, Uhura, Kirk, Spock, and Scotty as seen in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies.

Imagine being told by a former co-worker that you were going back to work with them. Several members of the cast of the recent theatrical Star Trek films were involved in an altercation last week.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, actors such as John Cho, Simon Pegg, and Karl Urban were caught by surprise when they were told a fourth film was in the works. Representations for the actors were not aware that an announcement for another film was coming, and certainly not that their clients would be shooting a movie by the end of the year. Chris Pine is considered the lead character and key person to get back, so he has begun early negotiations.

We were a little shocked by all the drama over a fourth Star Trek film. In the past five years, multiple versions of Star Trek films have been in various stages of development, none of which made it out of the gate. Legion's Noah Hawley had a different take on the project that was going to bring Chris Hemsworth back as Kirk's dad. A script was being written based on an idea from the director. Those are just a few examples. In July of last year, news broke that WandaVision director Matt Shakman was on board. Last week, J.J.Abrams said that a new Star Trek film would be shooting by the end of the year and that it would feature the original.

If enough money is thrown at it, filming could begin in the fall in order to hit next year's release date. We hope it does. The crew deserves at least one more trip. Make sure they know what's in the script.
