Drug companies are working on a vaccine. It could be a while before we see one in use.

  • When he was in office, former President Trump made a false claim that everyone wanted the vaccine.

  • partisan gaps in vaccine have been caused by Trump supporters not getting vaccine.

  • Trump blamed mandates for the low take up of the program.

Even though millions of his supporters have refused to get vaccine, former President Donald Trump blamed vaccine mandates for low vaccine take among some segments of the population.

While he was president, Trump promoted the development of COVID-19 vaccines, a vaccine that he claimed caused autism in children.

I think what we get great credit for is that they tried, but it didn't work, and even their side said you can't do that.

While Trump claims vaccine hesitancy wasn't an issue while he was president, many of his most prominent supporters and advisers pushed vaccine misinformation. The former president has faced opposition for his pro-vaccine stance from conservatives and his supporters.

When I was there, everybody wanted the vaccine, and we did a million shots a day, and we mobilized.

When Trump left office in January 2021, he did not publicly promote the vaccines until months later.

As vaccines became widely available to the American public, there were sharp partisan gaps in vaccine use.

A Kaiser Family Foundation study found that Republicans and Republican-leaning independents made up 42% of the adult population but only 42% of unvaccinated adults in the United States and that, when controlling for other factors, a Republican was 26 percentage points less likely.

I will tell you that the military did well in the removal from Afghanistan. I can tell you that. They were doing well. Everyone wanted the vaccine, Trump said. All of a sudden people didn't like it when I left. That is how you started with the mandate thing, which is terrible.

In recent months, Trump has stepped up his advocacy for COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters, after dismissing booster shots in August 2021, as a "money-making operation" for pharmaceutical companies, and saying he likely wouldn't receive a third COVID shot in September.

Trump was booed by some of his fans when he announced he received a booster shot at an event with Bill O'Reilly.

The unnamed politicians were called out by Trump for refusing to reveal their booster status, which some interpreted to be a thinly-veiled jab at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

I watched a couple of politicians be interviewed and one of the questions was, "Did you get the booster?" because they had the vaccine. The answer is yes, but they don't want to say it because they are gutless, according to Trump.

You have to say it. Whether you had it or not, Trump said.

Rumors of tension with Trump have been denied by a possible presidential candidate who has taken a hardline stance against vaccine mandates.
