After last night's post, Rodgers jumped back into the spotlight. The lengthy post was his first since the day he won his second consecutive Most Valuable Player award. It's intriguing because it has the tone of a person saying goodbye, almost like a different quarterback who also wears No. 12. He used four paragraphs and 10 pictures to say thank you to those that made his year special. The final picture is from the Green Bay Packers' Week 9 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, in which Rodgers did not play, and there is an empty space between wide receivers Randall Cobb and Davante Adams, which is where he would normally stand during the national anthem. This could be a sign of things to come. Today was the return of The Pat McAfee Show and the first episode of Rodgers on Tuesday since the Packers playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers. During the off season, Rodgers appears on the show. Did Rodgers use the appearance to clarify the post? Rodgers said in his first few minutes that he wouldn't be making an announcement today on his playing future. He made a point to say that he had spent the last 12 days doing a panchakarma and encouraged everyone to search for what it was. Rodgers would use the moment when most people would be watching the broadcast to brag about doing an ancient Ayurvedic body cleanse. Rodgers and Adams both posted on their IG stories a picture of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen in their last dance season.
If you have gone through certain experiences and have been near the bottom, you might say that is a cryptic message. I just finished a cleanse.
He went on to say that he felt a need to share his gratitude with the world because of what he had been doing in the cleanse. Rodgers said that he posted the picture where he wasn't standing between Adams and Cobb because it meant a lot to him that they held his spot in line even though he wasn't there.
Who knows if he is being insincere? He brought stress to himself by being openly unhappy with the Packers prior to the start of the season, sidestepping vaccine questions and then presenting to the rest of us his research that was discredited, surely it wasn't fun. Rodgers said that he felt remorse for all of the people who had to deal with his decisions and statements.
There is no reason for him to act like there is something wrong with people reading into something that he might post on social media. Everything that he posts is obvious because he is a celebrity. Rodgers feels the need to post a list of thank yous and pictures is going to make people wonder what his motivation was for doing so, as the free agency begins in a couple of weeks.
We should not dismiss his explanation, but we should not dismiss our initial questions. It's not the way that the world works if he wants to make statements without a lot of criticism or inquiry. Scientists, politicians, historians, journalists, entertainers, anyone who says or writes something that is widely consumed is open for critique not only that they welcome, but also that feel is unwarranted or unnecessary. Rodgers is the same as the brakes.
He has earned a dissection of everything he says, and he earned two consecutive Most Valuable Players.
