Hayao Miyazaki's first graphic novel, "Shuna's Journey", will be released in the US by First Second. Alex Dudok de Wit says the book is an homage to the emonogatrari comics of the 40s and 50s Japan.
There are visual and narrative themes that emerge in some of the later feature films of Hayao Miyazaki.
The prince tries to find a solution to his kingdom's barren lands. He meets a girl named Thea as he sets off. He tried to find the golden grain that will bring prosperity to his people after he rescued her.
In a thread on social media, De Wit explained that the story of Shuna's Journey is based on a Tibetan folk tale and that it is very similar to the world of Nausica.
