Exhausted and wounded from battle, Peacemaker, Vigilante, Economos, and Leota walk across a field strewn with bodies.

If you watched the first season finale of Peacemaker last Thursday, you will know that there were some very special, yet extremely unexpected, cameos by a few DC Comics characters. It turns out there may have been more to the cameos we didn't see.

If you haven't seen the finale, you should.

After Peacemaker and his team stopped the butterfly's alien invasion, the Justice League arrived late, and that's what John Cena had to say about it. Even though they are only seen in silhouette, Peacemaker is able to share the screen with Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, and Aquaman. It's evenwilder when the two characters in the Justice League movie turn around to reveal they're actually played by two other actors. It is important to Peacemaker as a show, and John Cena did not take the stars for granted.

I'm forever grateful to Momoa and Miller, because they did us a huge solid. They were able to put themselves in the spotlight and get people talking, but they did it in a way that wasn't funny. They did it for the good of the show. It really, really, really, really helped us, especially after eight episodes of people being excited about the show, to put a stamp on it. It gives everyone a lot to talk about and James Gunn is good at making people talk about things. The mission was accomplished.

In addition to legitimizing Peacemaker as a major DC character, the scene shows Chris Smith still more to go on his emotional journey, as he is a jealous superhero. I don't know if he's a superhero, but he's jealous. He is jealous of the other superheroes because of what they have. He doesn't have it because he wants it. He has to badmouth everybody, talk about Wonder Woman's desire for him, and tell jokes about the other characters. Everything he says is indicative of how he is. He wants to be where they are.

In the episode, Peacemaker only yells, "You're late, ya fuck dickheads!", at the League as he passes them by. This could mean that they were edited out, or that they improvised several different insults for the League.

I think the scene is so bold because it pokes a hole in the tragedy of the scene after the battle, where Peacemaker looks for all the world. It keeps the end light. The League arriving late to the battle and getting reprimanded and insulted by Peacemaker follows a long-standing tradition of superhero comedies bashing the grandeur and pretentiousness of the DC Universe's greatest heroes. This is true of the incarnations who starred in Justice League. The last note is that after Peacemaker tells Aquaman to go fuck another fish, he says, "I'm so fucking sick of that rumor." Discuss.
