Only one of the former secretaries of state is taking to social media during a time of danger in Europe to praise Russian President Vladimir Putin and chastise the Biden administration.

The Russian strongman has been praised by Mike Pompeo over the past month.

He is a great leader. He was a KGB agent and has a lot of gifts. He knows how to use power. We should respect that.

After supporting a violent movement in eastern Ukraine over the past eight years, Putin declared the two regions independent.

He has amassed nearly 200,000 troops along the east, north and south of the country since the fall.

A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers traveled to Ukraine in recent weeks to express a unified American voice of support, and are working on legislation that would provide President Joe Biden with new sanctions tools to punish Russia if it invades the country.

Few other former secretaries of state have weighed in on the crisis. Condoleeza Rice called Putin a megalomaniacal in an interview with CNN.

Since Putin took power in 1999, there have been eight U.S. secretaries of state, including four under Republican presidents and four under Democratic presidents.

He asserts that Biden is an America that apologizes.

Putin is very smart. In an interview with the Center for the National Interest, Pompeo said that he was very capable.

In the past, Donald Trump's secretary of state has dismissed Ukraine as unimportant in U.S. domestic politics. After an interview with an NPR reporter in 2020, he pulled the reporter aside to curse at her and demanded she identify the country on a map.

Ahead of a potential run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, the Secretary of State has been visiting key primary states. Since leaving office, he has worked to increase his media profile, losing 90 pounds in six months, joining Fox News as a contributor, and staying active on the speakers circuit.

The Republican Party is debating whether Russia is a friend or foe. Tucker Carlson is one of the major figures in the GOP who has defended Putin.

In a recent interview, Pompeo said that respecting Putin doesn't mean we should love him, like him, or bend a knee to him.

He is a capable leader, but we shouldn't treat him like a JV. The mistake of not putting deterrence in place over the last year has led to the current situation.

The current crisis to the Russians was blamed by the Secretary of State after Putin said that Ukraine was a Russian invention.

The Ukrainians are the victims. We should not shy away from that.
