The Legacy League signed a deal with the NIL to launch the Black Girl Magic collection by the NCAA national champion, 1st Team All-American and 3-time All-SEC gymnast.
I'm excited to launch my Black Girl Magic NFT Collection on the Legacy League platform. It's time to celebrate, congratulate and pay honor to all of my sisters, because their values align with mine.
Gobourne talked about how personal the NIL deal is for her on my Game Face show.
Since I was a young girl, I didn't see a lot of people that looked like me in gymnastics. It is important for me and other black gymnasts and little girls to see that there are people like them. I want to get that out. It would be a dream come true for a lot of little girls. My younger self would love that.
Gobourne was asked to define black girl magic.
Black girl magic is just stepping into who you are, and not letting anyone tell you that you need to look like this to be successful. You need to do it this way. Just stepping in to who you are. I love that I am different. That makes me stand out.
She will feature other black female gymnasts, including Ananda Brown, Jada Glen, Hannah Joyner and Kyla Bryant.
I reached out to a couple of girls that I know in college, like some of my teammates, and then I found out that I am friends with some people in Florida. I wanted to give other black athletes the chance to do NIL deals and spread their light.
It was important for Gobourne to include other black gymnasts.
It is comforting to know that I have so many other black gymnasts supporting me. We all have the same paths and stories, and I think it is great to have other girls to lean on.
I want other people that look like me to have opportunities. I feel like that was my main point in doing all of this and kind of collaborating with other people to get them out there as well. I want them to be heard. I want them to see it.
Kurt Hallead said it is a point of emphasis for his brand to align with female athletes like Gobourne.
At a time when female student athletes lag behind their male counterparts, we are excited to partner with Derrian. As a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ambassador, Derrian will serve as our collaboration extends beyond NFTs. She will drive engagement with underrepresented athletes across the country as we continue our mission to help every college athlete leave their legacy in the collegiate sports metaverse.
Every Power 5 conference and 50 universities have athletes on the Legacy League roster. Female athletes make up more than 25% of the Legacy League's lineup, as they compete in 15 different sports from football to gymnastics.
Legacy League will launch the Black Girl Magic collection in the coming months, but a specific date has not yet been set.
