Baristas at a Texas Starbucks sprang into action to make sure a local teenager was okay when a man she didn't know approached her.

Brandy Roberson shared the story on her Facebook page on Friday and posted a photo of the baristas' clever message to her daughter: a handwritten note on a coffee cup.

Are you okay? Do you want us to help? The message read, "If you do, take the lid off the cup."

The Texas resident told TODAY Food that her daughter was studying alone at a Starbucks on a Saturday night.

She wanted to get out of the house and study. She likes to study at coffee shops.

After a stranger started talking to her, a barista gave her daughter an extra hot chocolate that someone forgot to pick up.

As soon as she got home, the teenager told her mother about the incident.

She was holding the cup and knew that I would love that someone did that for her. My worst fear as a mom is that something would happen to my child and nobody would be there to help.

The adult man lingered for a while and talked loudly.

It sounded like he was very animated. I believe this is what the employees were told to look out for. They knew my daughter probably didn't know him because he hadn't come in with her.

The teenager let the barista know that she was safe. The man left the 18-year-old alone as he became aware that she was communicating with the staff.

Starbucks declined to comment when TODAY Food reached out.

She only wanted to express her gratitude for the thoughtful employees, and she didn't think her story would go viral. She is happy that it has put a positive spotlight on local workers.

I am very grateful to the staff there. She said that she hopes that we can all learn from them and be willing to help anyone who may need it.
