The Spokesman-Review, Spokane, Wash.

There were a few instances early last week that told the story of what happened to her father and stepmother.

Dave and Geralyn Covey were found dead on their property near the Canadian border. The suspected double homicide is being investigated by the Okanogan County Sheriff.

Springer said the Coveys left their Omak residence the morning of February 13 with their three dogs to visit their property on the ninth mile of Nealy Road in Chesaw. The dog was found on the property on Sunday.

Springer said that when the dog was found by the truck, it was the sign that something was wrong. Two of the dogs were found alive on Wednesday.

Springer said she went to the Omak residence and knocked on the door, but there was no answer. She said they always do that.

Springer said that he knew there was something wrong.

Springer said that she, her family and the sheriff's office searched their Chesaw property.

When we were up there on Tuesday, there was no sign of them, and I knew they were gone.

The property was searched by volunteers, drones and off-road vehicles. The bodies of the Coveys were found by the sheriff around 6 p.m.

Springer was devastated when she was told they had been found.

The Coveys' shed was broken into and she believes a confrontation led to the killings.

Springer said that they didn't deserve to die this way. There was no reason for it. Sure, there are confrontations and people get angry, but to kill someone, not just one, but two people, it is unbelievable.

The person of interest was seen by the sheriff's office twice, but they both ran away.

Springer said the Coveys were well-known in the region because of their long residency. She said that Dave and Geralyn Covey came from Dickinson, North Dakota.

She said Geralyn Covey worked at Washington Tractor for many years, and Dave Covey worked at the Okanogan County maintenance shop.

Springer introduced Geralyn Covey to her father. She said they were married for 25 years.

Springer said her father worked on cars and raced them. She said he gave a car to a friend who needed it.

She said that they would help anyone. I want them to be remembered for their hard work and how generous they were.

Springer said people will remember them for their humor.

She said that they loved a good joke.

Springer said a son of Geralyn Covey is taking care of three dogs, one of which has a broken leg.

The person who fled the property is believed to be armed and dangerous, and that he was last seen wearing an older green camouflage jacket and dark pants.

There are too many unanswered questions to focus on a specific individual or release any information on a person or persons of interest.

Anyone with relevant information, photos or video footage is asked to call the sheriff's office.

The manner of deaths will be determined through an autopsy by the Okanogan County Coroner's Office.

Springer thinks they will find him and hopefully bring him to justice.
