The University of Michigan has suspended Juwan Howard for the remainder of the regular season for his role in the skirmish following Sunday's 77-63 loss to Wisconsin.

The news was reported Monday by Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports. There are five games left for Michigan before the Big Ten Tournament.

Howard was fined tens of thousands of dollars.

The Michigan forwards and the Wisconsin guard were suspended for one game for their roles in the altercation.

Gard was fined $10,000, but he was not suspended.

Joe Krabbenhoft was not reprimanded.

The players and assistants separated Howard and Gard after they yelled at each other in the handshake line. Howard hit Wisconsin assistant Joe Krabbenhoft.

The players pushed each other in the scrum.

The Big Ten was aware of a physical altercation involving Howard and was in contact with both member institutions.

The Associated Press reported that Howard was angry that Wisconsin called a timeout with 15 seconds left.

Howard said in his postgame press conference that he didn't like the timeout being called.

Some members of the Wisconsin staff were affected and injured, according to the athletic director.

There is no room for conduct like that in any competition, much less a Big Ten competition. The Big Ten is proud of its sportsmanship. The Big Ten is proud of its acting. That did not happen today.

Gard explained that he called a timeout to reset the half-court clock before he emptied his bench.

The Badgers improved to 21-5 overall and 12-4 in conference play with the win. Johnny Davis led the way with 25 points and six boards.

After the latest loss dropped them to 14-11 overall and 8-7 in the Big Ten, they are firmly on the NCAA tournament bubble.
