The protests that roiled Canada in recent weeks have inspired American truck drivers to form their own protest against vaccine mandates.

The People's Convoy will launch a peaceful and unified transcontinental movement in Southern California on Wednesday and will end in the Washington, DC area on March 5.

DC law enforcement is preparing to be on the scene next month in the event of a rally that shuts down traffic around the nation's capitol.

According to a news release Sunday, the rally intends to be a law-abiding convoy with freedom-loving supporters from all walks of life.

It is time for elected officials to work with the blue collar and white-collar workers of America and restore accountability and liberty by lifting all mandates and ending the state of emergency.

The US Capitol Police said in a statement on Friday that it is aware of the convoy's plans and is securing resources and using the National Guard.

The USCP is closely coordinating with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, including the DC Metropolitan Police Department, the United States Park Police, the United States Secret Service and other allied agencies.

Canadian officials remain on high alert

After police secured the capitol and workers began cleaning the streets, a weeks-long trucker rally in Canada came to a close. More than 200 people were arrested and 76 vehicles were towed after Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau declared a national emergency.

The declaration allowed the government to temporarily prohibit residents from public assembly, restrict travel, and force businesses to act in order to stop the protests. The demonstrations slowed down trade between Canada and the US.

Police around the country are still on high alert because they are concerned that the rallies may spread to other cities.

Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair said the job is not done despite police making significant progress.

The New York Times quoted a senior fellow at the Center for International Governance Innovation as saying that there is concern of continued escalation as the protests were given terrific oxygen to spread its message.

Wark said that there is a worry that the protest movement will become more significant and sustained.
