Iszac Henig, the Yale swimmer, capped off his dominant individual performances by competing on the women's team after competing on the men's team in the past.

Thomas and Henig both competed in the 100 yard freestyle, Thomas after setting pool records in the 500 and 200 yard freestyles earlier in the week, and Henig after setting a meet record in the latter. Thomas set a pool and meet record with a time of 47.63 seconds in the 100 freestyle finals, while Henig came in second with a time of 47.82 seconds.

Henig, who is transitioning from female to male and has undergone surgical, but not hormonal, treatments to aid that transition, finished second in the preliminary heats on Saturday morning behind Thomas. Henig won the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday.

The relay races at the Championships have both been contributed to by Henig and Thomas.

UPenn's Catherine Buroker won the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16 minutes and 21.17 seconds, despite Thomas not competing in it. In December, Thomas completed the event in 15 minutes and 59.71 seconds. Buroker was six seconds behind Thomas in the 500-yard freestyle.

Critics argue that Thomas boasts from having gone through male puberty that he has physical advantages. The eligibility of Thomas to compete in the Ivy League and NCAA Championships was briefly in doubt after the NCAA and U.S. Swimming announced a rule change that would require trans athletes to take three years off of testosterone to compete.

The NCAA decided that implementing the rule change before the end of the current season could have unfair and potentially detrimental impacts on schools and student-athletes.

Both Thomas and Henig have helped their teams this season and at the Ivy League Championships. They helped Yale and Penn move into second and third place, behind only Harvard.

Some on the team have concerns despite Thomas' contributions. 16 of Thomas's teammates wrote to Penn and the Ivy League not to challenge the new NCAA rule. The group's support for Thomas's transition was emphasized in the letter.

Lia has an unfair advantage over competition in the women's category as evidenced by her rankings that have bounced from #462 as a male to #1 as a female, according to the letter.

Several anonymous teammates offered a different view of Lia's transition, expressing full support for her.

We value Thomas as a teammate and friend. An anonymous member of the Penn team wrote a statement that was not representative of the feelings, values, and opinions of the entire Penn team.

Georgia Tech will host the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships from March 16 to 19.
