One of my favorite retro liveries is the one that leaked of a new Qatar Airways Boeing 777 in a retro livery. The plane has entered service, and Watar Airways has now officially unveiled it.
A special livery on a Boeing is now flying around the globe. The plane in question is a 13 year old jet that entered service in 2008.
The plane flew from DOHA to TOulouse on January 26, 2022. It's funny to see a Boeing aircraft being re-painted in Toulouse, which is the home of Airbus, and which is currently in a dispute with Qatar Airways.
Since February 16 the plane has flown to Paris, Sydney, Male, Manchester, and Cape Town, so it has done quite a bit of travel. This plane isn't being rostered on specific routes, but you can track its registration to see where it is on a particular day.
This plane is intended to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Qatar Airways. Akbar Al Baker describes the livery.
“We are tremendously excited to celebrate our 25th anniversary by introducing this unique aircraft to our fleet. We hope this retro design will bring many memories of travel to our passengers, especially those who experienced travelling with us in our early years. This livery marks the milestone of how far we have come as the national carrier, evolving into a six-time World’s Best Airline winner.”
The initial livery of the airline was less. The oryx was featured on the tail, and there was a big focus on burgundy.
In some ways, not much has changed, for example, the oryx on the tail of the jets is still there, and burgundy is still prominently featured in the cabin and in all kinds of branding and marketing.
The average person doesn't care about liveries as much as us avgeeks. I think the current livery of Qatar Airways is perfect. I like the old livery and feel like it could work as a standard livery nowadays, as it almost looks modern. It's timeless to me.
The carrier has painted a plane in a special livery to celebrate their 25th anniversary. This is the same livery as the airline launched, and it's one of the best liveries I've ever seen. One day I will be able to see this plane in person.
Do you like the retro livery of Qatar Airways?
