Wolves can do something special - Bruno Lage

Wolves have five wins from six in the premier league.

The combination of eye-catching goals from Ruben Neves and Daniel Podence, along with solid defending and a couple of decent saves from goalkeeper Jose Sa, helped them pastLeicester.

The win at Wolves keeps them in the running for a place in the top four, with two games in hand, and two behind fourth-place Manchester United.

The fans on the South Bank at the final whistle did not have Nuno-style fist-punching celebrations. That is not Bruno Lage's way.

If Wolves are to repeat their achievement of three seasons ago and return to European football, or if they go higher and finish in the top five, they will do it quietly.

Proving the doubters wrong

It was like the 45 year old was trying to make himself invisible when he watched Lage take his seat for the start of the game.

Lage has already proved himself to be a worthy successor to Nuno Espirito Santo, who brought Wolves back to the top flight and re-established them as an effective force in the English game.

Lage came to Wolves with a goal to make them more exciting. Defenders were told to play higher up the pitch. This was a worry for a unit that wasn't blessed with lightning speed. teething problems made the concerns worse.

The style of play was better than Wolves have produced since the opening month of the season when they lost to Manchester United, Spurs and Leicester.

Fans and players were aware that something was possible.

The results of the second game against the Foxes show that Nuno's counter-attacking preference was more similar to that of their opponents.

Lage said there were no secrets in football.

I think we can do something special but we have to keep working.

Lage's CV may not be as impressive as some of his rivals in the league, but he has a fierce determination to succeed and he has a limited playing career to his name.

It was thought that Dean Smith might lose his job as a result of the first season back in the top flight.

Smith kept his job but Lage was on the radar of the Wolves.

His wife Maria has a successful career and he has been able to devote more time to his job.

He has made some changes. One was going to have an auditorium built for his preferred twice-daily meetings, one before and one after the day's session. Nuno had one meeting a week in total, so he had no need for a room.

His light-hearted side has been on display as time has gone by. He made a couple of public complaints about the lack of new signings.

His employers understand what is needed when he outlines a position.

The summer is seen as a likely time of change for Wolves.

Adama Traore, Joao Moutinho and Roman Saiss are no longer with the team.

Chinese Wolves owners have adapted their model to buy younger players. Max Kilman, who has taken himself to the brink of an England call after establishing himself in the first team this season, is one of three players who played in the recent victories against Saints.

He knows that experience is required if Wolves are to keep moving forward.

He has no desire to go in any other direction.

He said that they did something special in December, January and February.

We can not relax. We have 40 points, but we want more.
