A candidate for Arizona secretary of state is trying to raise money to fight a subpoena issued by the House committee investigating the Capitol riot.

The Arizona state lawmaker asked for donations on Saturday, saying he needed an immediate $5,000.

I am being subpoenaed by the court in DC. I need $5k immediately to put a lawyer on retainer to protect me from Liz Cheney and Pelosi. Donate here to help me reach my goal. I appreciate you all, said Finchem in the message.

He shared the link to the donation page on GiveSendGo. The page said that Finchem has stood up for Americans with concerns about the 2020 election and that he is now facing an unjust subpoena from the January 6 committee.

He does not have the resources to defend himself against the abuse of power that the Congress is now engaged in. The page said that he needed your help.

The funding goal on the page was set at $750,000, despite the request for $5,000 from Finchem. More than $3,700 was raised by Sunday evening.

In Arizona, which was won by President Joe Biden, the representative of District 11 believes that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump.

In September, Trump endorsed Finchem for Arizona secretary of state, praising his stance on voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

Legal challenges in Arizona and other states were all dismissed because Trump and his allies did not provide any proof of voter or election fraud.

If elected secretary of state in November, he would become Arizona's chief election officer.

On Tuesday, the January 6 committee subpoenaed Finchem along with the chair of the Arizona GOP for documents and testimony related to efforts to overturn the election.

In November 2020, Rudy Giuliani and other Trump lawyers attended an election fraud meeting in Phoenix that was attended by GOP lawmakers in the state. After that meeting, Giuliani suggested to state lawmakers that they dismiss the election results and appoint Republican electors.

The campaign did not respond to the request for comment.
