According to the office of the French President, President Joe Biden and Russian leader Vladimir Putin have agreed to hold a summit on security and strategic stability in Europe.

The meeting details will be decided by Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov when they meet on February 24.

The French leader invited Biden and Putin to hold talks as tensions rise over fears that Russia intends to invade its neighbor.

The meeting hinges on one fundamental condition, that Russia does not invade Ukraine.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that the US confirmed Biden's tentative approval of a summit.

As the President has made clear, we are committed to pursuing diplomacy until an invasion begins.

If an invasion hasn't happened, President Biden accepted in principle a meeting with President Putin.

The White House had warned that Russia was on the verge of launching an invasion.

We are always prepared for diplomacy. Should Russia choose war, we will impose swift and severe consequences. Russia appears to be preparing for a full-scale assault on Ukraine very soon.

CBS News reported on Sunday that Russian commanders had been ordered to move forward with the invasion.
