The batteries in the devices won't charge when it's cold.

If the batteries have power left, the battery versions of the doorbell and cam can operate at temperatures as low as minus four degrees Fahrenheit. Those cells will not charge at temperatures below the freezing mark. In cold weather, they may drain faster than usual, with battery life potentially halving when the devices are near their operating limit.

The company recommends that you bring your doorbell or cam indoors. The warmer the battery gets, the faster it will charge. The Home app can tell you if you should take your devices inside. Charging paused orCharging slowly will be displayed with a lengthy estimated charging time when cold weather is affecting them.

Even if your electrical system is connected to the internet, freezing temperatures can affect your Nest devices. Even though the doorbell has an electrical connection, it still draws on its battery for power. The trickle charge coming from the wire won't help the battery at 32 degrees Farhenheit. You will need to bring the device inside to charge it again once it dies. If you lose power and the battery is dead, the Nest cam won't work, but if you charge it again, it will work again. If you are cold, there is a good chance your device is as well. Bring it inside for a break from the cold.
