Donald Trump's social media platform, Truth Social, will launch in the App Store on February 21st. The date is based on a post seen by the outlet on a test version of the network. On Friday, a verified account tied to Truth Social's chief product officer told people to mark the 21st on their calendars because the platform would open to the public.
According to the executive, we will be in the Apple App Store on Monday, February 21st. The 21st is Presidents Day in the US.
If the network doesn't suffer a hiccup like the one it did last fall, the launch will be a success. The former president was banned from social media after the attack on the US Capitol.
Truth Social ran on a mostly unmodified version of Mastodon before it was pulled down last fall. The Software Freedom Conservancy accused The Trump Media and Technology Group of violating Mastodon's AGPLv3 license by not sharing the platform's source code. Two weeks later, the website added a ZIP archive of its source code.
Truth Social won't stray too far from the formula. People can use the network to postTruths, and it is possible to reshare posts on one's timeline to expand their reach. In the coming weeks, the company will publish a verification policy, as well as a direct messaging feature, according to the executive who answered questions from users.
