The labor movement has made it to Apple. According to the Washington Post, retail employees at the tech giant are beginning to quietly unionize, in part because hourly wages have remained stagnant while Apple's profit margins soar.

Employees who spoke to WaPo on the condition of anonymity said that two Apple stores are preparing to file paperwork with the National Labor Relations Board. According to WaPo, many organizers have switched to Android phones because they are suspicious of Apple snooping.

Watchful Eyes

That might sound alarmist, but in 2021 Apple fired an employee who was accused of sexual harassment and environmental concerns.

She wrote that the megacorporation has an internal culture of espionage and intimidation.

Apple employees were accused of posing as fake police officers in order to recover an iPhone prototype.

It's not clear if Apple is actually snooping on the organizers of the event, and if it was, it would get in big trouble with regulators.

Let's hope not. Employees should be able to organize without fear because they have the right to do so.
