The U.S. has information that Russian officers are planning to invade Ukraine. David Martin is a national security correspondent for CBS News.

Russian commanders are doing everything that American commanders would do once they get the order to proceed, according to the intelligence.

The State department and Pentagon said the U.S. was still trying to de-escalate the Russia-Ukraine crisis as an incursion becomes more probable.

The Secretary of State said on CNN that Russian president Vladimir Putin was positioning forces in the immediate geographical area of Ukraine.

He said that he followed the script almost to the letter.

During a presentation before the United Nations Security Council Thursday, Blinken noted that the U.S. had expected Russia to manufacture a crisis that could serve as an excuse for intervention. Russia extended its military drills in Belarus past Sunday, when the joint military exercises were scheduled to end. Russia had not planned to prolong its military presence in the country.

He said that everything leading up to the actual invasion appears to be taking place.

The U.S. will try to negotiate with Russia until the last minute, according to Tony Blinken.

We believe President Putin has made the decision, but until the tanks are rolling and the planes are flying, we will use every chance we have to see if diplomacy can stop him.

We will do everything we can to prevent it before it happens, but equally we are prepared if he does follow through, to impose massive consequences, to provide for Ukraine's ongoing defense and to bolster NATO.

John Kirby said the U.S. was running a full-court press to get Putin to change his mind.

Kirby said that if the U.S. imposed pre-emptive sanctions on Russia, they would be trying to prevent.

On Friday, President Joe Biden told reporters he was confident that Putin had made his decision and that the invasion was imminent.
