Austrian Airlines suspended flights into some areas of Ukraine due to security concerns.

The first major airline to announce it was suspending flights to Ukraine was the Dutch flag carrier.

There is growing certainty that an invasion of Ukraine by Russia is imminent. Insurers have stopped covering planes flying into Ukraine.

There were no flights to and from the two Ukrainian cities. All departures from February 21 to February 28 will be affected by the decision.

CNN reported the news.

Due to the current situation in Ukranian, the group airlines will suspend their regular flights to Kyiv and Odessa until the end of February.

Affected passengers will be given alternative flight connections. They will have other options over the weekend.

Austrian Airlines did not give a time frame for those affected by the suspension of flights to and from Kyiv and Odessa.

The airline will operate individual special flights today that will allow passengers to travel from Kyiv and Odessa. There are flights to Lviv.

The safety of our passengers and employees is a top priority. We are in close contact with national and international authorities.

Taylor Rains reported earlier this month that some global airlines were avoiding Ukrainian airspace as the US warned of an imminent war between Russia and Ukraine.
