Pizza Hut marks the latest restaurant chain to experiment with plant-based meat alternatives with the introduction of its Garden Specialty Pizza that will feature MorningStar Farms' "Incogmeato" Italian sausage, along with onions, mushrooms and banana peppers. Taking its sustainability efforts even further, Pizza Hut is also testing out new round boxes that will eliminate a significant amount of packaging material per box.

To create the round pizza boxes, Pizza Hut partnered with Zume, a company focused on developing sustainable solutions for the future of the food industry. The boxes require less material to make and feature interlocking mechanisms to make delivery even easier. The company also notes the experimental design allows for more room in the fridge for leftovers, and it is industrially compostable.

Unfortunately for many sustainability-minded pizza lovers, the Garden Specialty Pizza and round boxes will only be available at one Pizza Hut location in Phoenix, Arizona on October 23. The new product offerings will be packaged together for $10 USD and will be available in-store only. However, Pizza Hut says it aims to have a wider launch for the boxes in the future.

Elsewhere in food, gear up for Halloween with Burger King's limited edition Ghost Whopper.
