  • I worked as a Disney Imagineer for eight years.

  • It is not safe to sit on the railings in the lines or sneak a kid onto a ride they are too short for.

  • You shouldn't try to text while walking, and flip-flops aren't going to get you far in the parks.

I learned a lot about visiting the theme parks when I worked as a Walt Disney Imagineer.

Guests should never do things at Disney World.

Don't try to text while walking down Main Street in Magic Kingdom

Main Street USA is immediately apparent when you walk into Magic Kingdom. The aesthetic makes you feel like you are walking through a real old-timey town, complete with curbs, lamp posts, and trolley tracks.

If you are texting and walking, you could accidentally find those features.

Rolling your ankle in the trolley tracks is the worst, so make sure to pull over to the side if you need to look at your phone.

Faking an injury to get a wheelchair or scooter isn't cool

Wheelchairs and electric conveyance vehicles are available on a first-come, first-served basis at Disney.

Don't be the person who fakes an injury to get in line in order to cut the lines.

It takes it away from someone who really needs it.

Using flash photography on the rides is distracting and annoying

The flash really ruins the experience for you and your neighbors, even though it is tempting to whip out your camera on the rides.

If you take a picture on a ride like Splash Mountain or Pirates of the Caribbean, it could get wet.

While visiting the Disney parks, I know photos are a must, but a lot of the bigger rides take pictures of you that you can get through PhotoPass. You can get unlimited digital downloads if you add Memory Maker to your plan.

The railings in the ride queues aren't your personal seats

It can be tempting to climb or sit on the railings while waiting for a ride, but you could fall and hurt yourself or another person.

It slows the line. A lot of planning and effort goes into making the queue beautiful, and this beats them up a lot quicker.

Don't bring plastic straws or balloons into Animal Kingdom

Plastic straws and balloons are not allowed in Animal Kingdom because they can become a danger to the animals in the park.

They are not allowed in the water parks at Disney.

Wearing flip-flops to Disney World is a recipe for disaster

Unless you are an expert flip-flops walker, you should not wear them at Disney.

A supportive shoe is your best bet since you can walk miles around the parks.

If you are worried about being hot in sneakers, I suggest you wear Teva sandals because they provide a little more support than standard flip-flops, and they strap all the way onto your foot.

Don't argue with ride employees about your child's height

Everyone in the family can enjoy the low-intensity rides at Disney World.

Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and The Barnstormer all have height requirements.

Don't argue with the park employees at the front of the line if they stick by the rules, and don't try to trick them.

They are trying to keep your child safe.
