A child was found walking alone in Colerain Township Thursday night.

Colerain police said the boy was abandoned in the area by his mother.

Heather Nicole Adkins took her son from Indiana and drove him 75 miles to Cincinnati.

The child is not verbal. The mother has been charged, police said.

Colerain Police said a driver called to report a boy walking alone at the corner of Sheed Road and Gaines Road.

The caller said the child was waving down cars and was soaking wet.

It is a two-lane road with no lights, and it was also freezing. He was on the side of the road. He waved me down. Wanderski told Enquirer Media partner Fox 19 that he was close enough to call the police.

The child was wearing a burgundy and gray sweatsuit and black gym shoes.

The boy has a scar on his nose that is new.

The child is not verbal and investigators think it is around 5 to 7 years old.

Colerain Police identified the child and are investigating the incident.

The Colerain Police Department is looking for anyone with information.
