Charlie Day Loves Guillermo del Toro, Not So Much Pacific Rim 2

Day was a fan favorite in the film because of his role in the film as scientist/Kaiju fan Newtzler. Day talked about his friendship with the director in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The Untitled Charlie Day Movie is the directorial debut of the actor and he attributed it to the advice and encouragement given by del Toro.

While looking back on Rim, the future Luigi talked about his disappointment on the sequel, Uprising. Newt became the villain in the sequel because the original script had to be rewritten after he dropped out.

He said thatGuillermo gave him the opportunity in the first place, and he created the character. It isn't clear what kind of future the franchise has at the moment, but that hasn't stopped Day from heaping praise on the filmmaker.
