West Memphis, Arkansas. More than 1,000 rodents were found inside a Family Dollar distribution facility in Arkansas, the US Food and Drug Administration said Friday.

The FDA said in a news release that they inspected the West Memphis facility in January after a consumer complaint. Live rodents, dead rodents, dead birds and bird droppings were found inside the building.

More than 1,100 dead rodents were recovered after fumigating the facility.

The Associate Commissioner for Regulatory Affairs Judith McMeekin said that no one should be subjected to products stored in unacceptable conditions.

The FDA is working with Family Dollar to conduct a voluntary recall.

Human food, pet food, dietary supplements, cosmetics, medical devices, and over-the-counter medications were purchased in January or February from Family Dollar stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee.

The Family Dollar stores that may have sold products from the contaminated facility were listed in a news release.

There are no consumer complaints or reports of illness related to this recall, according to the company.

Food in non-permeable packaging may be suitable for use if thoroughly cleaned, the FDA said.

Family Dollar is telling affected stores to check their stock immediately and to stop selling affected products.
