For the second year in a row, the overall 1-seed in the NCAA tournament was revealed early Saturday afternoon.
The committee announced its top 16 seeds as of now, with Arizona, Kansas and Auburn rounding out the 1-seeds after the Zags.
The committee chair said that the margin between the two schools was razor-thin.
The committee pointed to the wins over Texas Tech, UCLA and Texas that were selected as part of the top 16 as giving Mark Few's program the edge for the top spot.
The 2 seeds were Kentucky, Duke, and Purdue, and the final 1-seed was Kansas.
You could make a case for all three teams, as Kentucky has no losses outside of the first quadrant, and Baylor has more Quadrant 1 wins than anyone else.
The 3-seeds were Texas, Texas Tech, Tennessee and Illinois, while the 4-seeds were Wisconsin, UCLA, Providence and Texas.
Alabama, Houston and Ohio State are under consideration. Their lack of a single Quadrant 1 win kept them off the 4-line.
The committee placing the 3-seed in the East Region was the biggest talking point from the preview, which will be played at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Wells Fargo is where the Cats play many of their home games.
This is the only one of the season's mock brackets. March 13 is Selection Sunday.
This could change with the results this weekend, and with what happens over the next three weeks.
