Kiper: Bengals need multiple offensive linemen in upcoming draft (1:32)

The importance of drafting multiple offensive linemen is expressed by Mel Kiper Jr. (1:32)

6:00 AM ET

If Joe was hurting, he didn't want anyone to know.

The quarterback walked out of the locker room at the stadium after the Super Bowl loss to the Rams.

His right knee was injured and he had a limp. The image of him on the ground in the final game of the season was the same as it was a year ago, when he suffered a season-ending knee injury.

It also means that the main offseason conversation will be the same one Cincinnati had in 2021, is the franchise doing enough to protect its franchise quarterback? One of the worst pass-blocking units in the NFL is going to be improved by the money and draft picks of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Improvements will need to be made across the roster according to the coach.

The offensive line helped us get to the Super Bowl. They gave us the chance to win the Super Bowl.

Los Angeles scored the game-winning touchdown with 1:45 remaining, after the Bengals had led for most of the second half against the Rams. The Super Bowl record for sacks was tied by Cincinnati.

Taylor said that Burrow had a knee injury during the Super Bowl. In the Week 17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, he did not finish because of a right knee injury.

The offensive line was praised after the loss despite the fact that the pass block win rate was the lowest of the season.

After the game, Burrow said that they played well. I was proud of the way they fought. We all have to improve individually.

Nobody is talking about the offensive line from Cincinnati. Against the Rams in the Super Bowl, the unit was overmatched by more talented defensive fronts.

The Rams had two of the best pass-rushers in the league in defensive tackle Von Miller and defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Donald is a three-time Defensive Player of the Year and is considered one of the best defensive linemen to ever play the game. Miller, the second overall pick in the 2011 draft, is a former Super Bowl Most Valuable Player who has averaged 11.6 sacks a season in his decorated 11-year career.

The offensive line of Cincinnati does not have the same experience. Outside of left tackle Jonah Williams, the other four starting linemen were either drafted in the sixth round or not.

The group battled all year, but Cincinnati finished the regular season ranked 30th in pass block win rate and was sacked 70 times in 20 starts.

You don't want your quarterback to get hit one time, not even counting the things that weren't sacks, just him getting hit in general.

It has been difficult to see Burrow get hit so often.

Mike Greenberg and Mike Tannenbaum discuss the extension of the coach.

I mean, that's theJoey Franchise, right? You don't want to see your quarterback as often as he did.

An extra seventh-round pick was acquired in the trade with the New York Giants last year.

Cincinnati has $48.9 million in starting salary cap space, which can be used to make necessary improvements. Spain and Reiff are both free agents and the Bengals need to see if Jackson Carman can be a long-term solution at right guard.

In the past, the Bengals have tried to use high draft picks on offensive linemen. Cincinnati didn't pan out for center Billy Price and tackle Cedric Ogbuehi because of different reasons. Carman can be a key contributor.

The time for rebuilding is over after the Super Bowl run. Cincinnati is in the championship window. If the Bengalers want to be competing at the game's highest level, they need to fix weak spots on the roster immediately.
