D.L. Hughley Says Judge Failed to Sentence Kim Potter as Citizen Would Be

A few hours after ex-officer Potter was sentenced for manslaughter, we got a comedian and author at LAX. She could have gotten up to 15 years in prison, but D.L. says there is a certain amount of accountability they refuse to give to police officers.

Potter shot and killed Daunte during a traffic stop outside Minneapolis in April 2021. Potter said she thought she was pulling her stun gun, but accidentally drew her gun.

D.L. seemed defeated by the news of Potter's sentence. Although he accepts the killing was accidental, he still doesn't understand why police officers get light sentences in fatal shootings.

The officer who killed Oscar Grant in Oakland got 2 years for manslaughter. He was released on parole after just 11 months.

The American justice system has an upper limit on how much accountability it will give to cops who kill citizens, according to D.L. He says that officers need to be held to a higher standard than ordinary citizens.
