We could possibly see new versions of the 13-inch MacBook Pro and the higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch versions in 2022. We haven't heard much about a refresh of the larger models given that they just launched in October, but there are rumors that a new 13-inch model could come as soon as spring.

This guide is only for the 13-inch MacBook Pro that we are expecting to see refreshed first, but it will be updated as we hear more about all of the MacBook Pro models.

13-Inch MacBook Pro

The entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro was refreshed in November 2020. All three product lines are due for an update.

Design

The 13-inch MacBook Pro will not see any design updates, and the Touch Bar will not be included, according to rumors. Mark Gurman has suggested that Apple will remove the Touch Bar.

The new 13-inch MacBook Pro won't include a mini-LED display or support 120Hz ProMotion refresh rates.

The biggest change coming to the 13-inch MacBook Pro will be the M2 chip.

M2 Chip

Apple has been working on a follow-up to the M1 since it was launched.

There will be additional GPU cores. Up from the 7 and 8-core options available in the original version, there are expected to be 9 and 10-core options. The M2 will not be as powerful as the M1 Pro and the M1 Max.

The chip used in the updated MacBook Pro and MacBook Air is expected to be.

14-Inch and 16-Inch MacBook Pro

We haven't heard much about new MacBook Pro models at this point in time. Apple won't go for a design refresh because the 2021 models had a new look with mini-LED display, but we can count on new chips.

We don't know what to expect just yet, but upcoming MacBook Pro models will likely use the future M2 chips.

Release Timelines

The 13-inch MacBook Pro is rumored to be introduced by Apple at its spring event, which is expected to take place on Tuesday, March 8.

We will be seeing the M2 chip as early as March if accurate. Mark Gurman has said that Apple has a new 13-inch MacBook Pro in the works, but he has not given a release date.
