The US Surgeon General and his family all tested positive for the disease.

Murthy shared that he and his family became ill after his daughter tested positive. Murthy wrote that the three of them have been given vaccine and boosted to provide some protection from illness.

His daughter is too young to be protected by the vaccine. She initially had a sore throat, but was doing well when Murthy posted an update Friday.

Murthy said that all four family members were facing mild symptoms. He said his wife has a headaches and fatigue, while he reported sore throat, muscle aches, and chills. He said that his daughter had worse congestion and coughing than her brother, but they both had a cold.

Murthy and his wife tried to be safe around their daughter after she tested positive, but eventually the urge to comfort their kids won out.

When your kids are sick, you want to comfort them. Being close often requires being close physically.

As a parent, Murthy was reassured that the vaccine would keep him and his wife from getting sick, even if they did get it.

The Surgeon General acknowledged that getting COVID-19 after taking the recommended precautions can be frustrating and even a source of shame.
