The National Archives has been in communication with the DOJ after the discovery of classified documents.

Some of the records transferred to the National Archives included paper documents that Trump had torn up, some of which had been taped back together.

The National Archives wants Trump's representatives to keep looking for additional presidential records that haven't been turned over in order to prevent them from being lost or destroyed.

The agency is still trying to locate certain social media records that the administration neglected to preserve.

White House staff who used non- official electronic messaging accounts to conduct business and didn't forward the communications to their official accounts are being sought by the National Archives.

A request for comment was not immediately responded to by a Trump spokesman.

The National Archives is expected to finish inventorying the boxes by February 25, according to a letter from Ferriero.

In January, 15 boxes of White House records were turned over to the National Archives from Mar-a-Lago, where they had been stored in defiance of the Presidential Records Act. The boxes reportedly contained a letter from Barack Obama to Donald Trump when he was first sworn in. Steven Aftergood, director of the Federation of American Scientists Project on Government Secrecy, told the New York Times that Trump might have violated the Presidential Records Act. The ability of the National Archives to enforce the Presidential Records Act may be limited because they don't have their own police force. David H. Laufman, a former Justice Department lawyer, told the Times that Trump could be held liable for obstruction of justice if he ripped up documents to impede an investigation.
