Mexico's government shot back on Friday, saying at least candidates in Mexico concede defeat when Ted Cruz accused Mexico of violating the rule of law.

Cruz claimed that there was a breakdown of the rule of law in Mexico and that there had been killings of journalists.

Mexico's ambassador to the United States invited Cruz to look at what happened in the national election.

All of the political parties accepted the results and got on with their work to strengthen democracy and freedom of expression.

That was a clear reference to the actions of Sen. Cruz after the riot at the U.S. Capitol that left several people dead and hundreds facing charges.

Cruz was one of a few GOP senators who continued to support Donald Trump despite his false claims of voter fraud. Cruz said he has no second thoughts about voting against certifying the election results.

Cruz has been involved in controversy with Mexico.

Cruz was criticized for taking his family to a Mexican resort in February of 2021, while millions of Texans shivered in their homes due to the winter weather.

He cut the trip short after he was photographed at a Houston airport waiting for his flight to the resort town. At least 40 people in Texas died as a result of the storm and millions of Texans lost heat and running water. Cruz said the trip was a mistake.

Mexico's President has not always accepted official results.

When official vote counts showed he lost the presidency in 2006 by a much smaller margin than Trump did in 2020, he staged an inauguration of himself as a legitimate president.

In 2012 he accepted a loss and won the following year.
