The stakes in the NBA playoffs should be raised.

Morey suggested a 58-game regular season for the NBA as well as a single-elimination playoffs.

Morey said he would have it done one-and-done. It is done. The NCAA Tournament gets more money than the regular season does.

It would be a huge change from the four rounds of best-of-seven series NBA teams must go through to win a title.

The ratings for the single-elimination tournament of the National Football League are very high.

The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl, with an estimated 101.1 million viewers watching on NBC. It came after nearly 100 million unique viewers watched the games.

The NBA's Game 6 of the Finals last year averaged 12.52 million viewers and peaked at 16.47 million.

If every game was winner-take-all, there would be more drama.

The number of projected upsets might cause a full one-and-done brackets to be excessive. Two years ago, the Los Angeles Lakers lost their first playoff game but went on to win the NBA title.

Maybe the randomness is what Morey is looking for after falling short of a title.
