Daniels entered the transfer portal a few months after he said he would return to play for the Sun Devil.

Daniels, who posted a video on social media to announce he would return for his fourth season, has entered his name into the portal, but he has not publicly announced his intentions to transfer.

The decision came after Zak Hill resigned as offensive coordinator after being placed on administrative leave during an NCAA investigation that alleges improper recruiting practices prior to the 2020 season.

During his freshman season, Daniels threw for 2,943 yards, 17 touchdown and two interception, while also rushing for 355 yards and three touchdown. He had 701 passing yards, five touchdown and four rushing touchdown in four games for the Sun Devil in the truncated 2020 season.

The Sun Devil's Daniels threw for 2,381 yards, 10 touchdown and 10 interceptions, leading the team to an 8-5 record. The staff brought in Alabama quarterback transfer Paul Tyson to help replace some of Long's production.

Daniels and Long are two of 10 scholarship players at Arizona State who have entered the transfer portal since November.
