Google Hardware's Design Studio led by Ivy Ross is currently showing its first exhibition in Tokyo, titled "COMMA," as part of Designart Tokyo 2019. Curated by esteemed trend forecaster Li Edelkoort, the exhibition aims to effortlessly showcase Google's latest product offerings alongside contemporary design pieces typically found in the home, from ceramics to furniture.
Like a literary comma, the exhibition aims to inspire viewers to pause for a moment and consider the beauty of design and how technology can seamlessly be integrated with traditional design objects. The exhibition's main section consists of various environments anchored by custom wall hangings designed by Dutch interior architects INAMATT. The textile backdrops are made from fragments of antique linens that reflect shapes reminiscent of the exhibition concept and Google Hardware's design principles.
Each wall hanging sets the tone for the objects displayed below, which are all organized by color and aesthetic in relation to their accompanying backdrop. Google products on display range from the new Google Nest products to the Google Pixel 4, and each product is accompanied by objects like colorful chairs, mixed-material kitchenware and potted plants. In another area, Google's design inspirations and products are displayed along a sprawling wall, prompting visitors to test them out themselves.
