Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley character in the Alien franchise will be set in 70 years from now, which is before the Alien films were released.

Noah Hawley is the creator of the Fargo TV series, which was inspired by the Coen brothers movie of the same name. After season five of Fargo, which will be filmed this winter, the Alien TV show will be filmed.

The Alien TV show will be set on Earth when it is announced in 2020. Knowing the show's time period allows us to have fun speculating about how it might fit into the rest of the franchise.

The show is set in the 2090s, so it could be related to the events of Prometheus. The events of Prometheus begin in 2089 when Elizabeth Shaw and Charlie Holloway discover a star map in Scotland. The rest of the film takes place on a distant moon in 2093, as humanity attempts to make contact with its predecessors.

“I describe that as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla”

The Alien TV show won't have any returning characters from the previous films, according to Landgraf. Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley won't make an appearance, but does this also rule out a return from Michael Fassbender, who has already appeared in the Alien prequels? Who's to say?

The Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which is clearly also developing artificial intelligence, is in the Alien movies, but what if there are other companies? Which of those technologies is going to win? Someone is going to control electricity. We don't know which one it is.

It all sounds promising, and I'm cautiously optimistic because of the good job Fargo and What we do in the Shadow TV adaptation have done. The Alien TV series doesn't have an official air date.
